In
an extraordinary
part of the southern
coast of Africa,
in an area aptly
called The Garden
Route, a truly
extraordinary
event has taken
place. On one
side, the Indian
Ocean thunders
into the exquisitely
beautiful rocky
coast. On the
other, Knysna's
breathtaking lagoon
and the Outeniqua
Mountains fill
a calmer view.
It is on this
special spot that
you will find
a unique creation.
Some call it perfection…we
call it Pezula
Resort Hotel and
Spa.
Each of the 78
suites including
the two presidential
suites, have been
designed to be
utterly indulgent
and completely
private - all
with a contemporary
African style.
The interiors
exude warmth,
with stone and
wooded textures,
while welcoming
earth tones create
an unexpected
contrast to the
colours of the
surrounding landscape.
In all suites,
sandstone forms
a backdrop to
the real log fireplaces,
while marble is
prevalent on many
floors, patios
and balconies.
The suites have
individual climate
control, satellite
television, DVD
player, electronic
safe, direct telephone,
computer and internet
access, each has
a pantry kitchen
with deli snacks
and a well stocked
drinks cabinet.
Each has spectacular
views across either
Golf Course, Indian
Ocean or Knysna
Lagoon.
Kariega offers
luxury game lodge
accommodation,
architectural
award winning
lodges and a host
of activities,
such as; game
drives, hiking,
fishing, bird
watching, canoeing,
mountain biking,
horse riding and
the ever famous
river cruises
on the Kariega
Queen. Only 80
minutes east of
Port Elizabeth,
a visit to Kariega
game reserve should
be considered
a natural extension
of your trip along
South Africa's
famous 'Garden
Route', between
Cape Town and
Port Elizabeth.

Knysna Golf Club
is probably the
only golf course
in South Africa
which can boast
holes that are
below sea level.
When the course
floods it is possible
to canoe down
the fairway on
the 465 meter
par five 4th hole.
Because it is
situated close
to the Knysna
Heads as well
as the town's
well known lagoon,
one of the great
delights of the
club is to sit
under the trees
outside Hilsen
House. Which is
the half way tea
house. The chances
are pretty good
that you will
see the richly
coloured Knysna
Lourie, undoubtedly
one of South Africa's
most beautiful
birds. |

A modern golf
course with a
mature parkland
feel, considered
one of the best
conditioned golf
courses in South
Africa. It is
cleverly designed,
picturesque, and
presents an enjoyable
challenge to all
levels of golfers.
On the golf course
the par-three
17th hole where
a mid- to long-iron
has to be struck
over a wide expanse
of water to a
green strikingly
similar to that
of the par-three
12th of the Augusta
National.

Golf Course - Montagu |
|
|
Named after
the mountain
range that runs
along the Garden
Route coast,
this resort
golf course
has aesthetically
pleasing design
features such
as rivulets
and colourful
gardens. Like
its neighbour
the Montagu,
the golf course
is in magnificent
condition year
round.
Golfers who
are long hitters
will be tempted
to reach the
golfing green
on the shortish
par-four fifth
hole. A water
hazard dominates
the right side
of the fairway
and green.
|
Fancourt
Golf Course - Outeniqua |
|
|
A golfing green
that is the
youngest of
Fancourt's four
layouts serves
as the resort's
public golf
course and is
likely to be
busier than
the others.
There are not
many trees on
the golf course
and some holes
have a links-like
feel.
The golf course
is young and
the holes still
have to fight
it out for the
coveted signature
hole status.
The par-four
third is likely
to win the race.
Measuring 365m
off the back,
the hole doglegs
to the left
around a water
feature.

challenging

taking pride
of place amongst
its more familiar

also has much
to offer to
non-golfing
nature lovers,
being home to

late Bobby Locke
considered Humewood

and said that

indigenous bush,
it has a combination

The Links at
Fancourt, host
to the President's
Cup in November
2003, presents
a unique golfing
experience in
South Africa.
This man-made
links course
has achieved
balance and
harmony in terms
of length, hazards
and shot value.
While being
a beautiful
walking experience
the Links is
quite possibly
the most difficult
course in South
Africa. Carry
more balls than
usual and be
patient! The
Links was never
meant to be
a low scoring,
target golf
course.

The Golden Bear's
18-hole championship
course at Simola
has been created
to challenge the
professional and
inspire the amateur.
"When I first
started, I only
knew how to do
one thing, and
that was to put
a golf course
on a piece of
ground that only
a good player
could play ...
Easy courses are
fun occasionally,
but I don't think
they stand the
'test of time'
to be considered
great courses…
However, when
I start to design
a golf course,
I don't intentionally
try to make it
as tough as I
can. I simply
aim to create
a golf course
that will be a
demanding test
of skill for the
accomplished golfer
playing from the
back tees. But,
at the same time,
I want to offer
a challenging,
yet enjoyable
experience for
the average or
beginner player
who lays from
the appropriate
tees and thinks
his or her way
around the golf
course."
